Girona, June 2002
Once again Girona is to host the Festival of Religious Musics of the World. This essential event in the citys calendar of cultural activities will include in the course of seventeen days a total of fourteen concerts and other parallel activities, featuring outstanding groups specialising in the performance of music of a religious and traditional nature, in highly emblematic spaces of our city.
Now that its stone façade is again revealed to view, the Cathedral serves as a backdrop to the Baroque steps which, together with the central nave of the Gothic temple, its cloister and the newly-converted church of Sant Domènec, will be the venues of this years concerts.
All of Gironas Old Town will enjoy the resonances of many musics -some from close to home and others from far away- which will once again seduce us and contribute to building a richer world on the basis of difference and mutual respect.
May the human mosaic formed by these diverse cultures and voices make us grow in tolerance and dialogue. This is what the commitment of the city of Girona should be.
